On May 11, 2011, State Rep. Ronald Waters, Chairman of the Pennsylvania Legislative Black Caucus, hosted a rally and press conference for Pennsylvania Weed and Seed in the Capitol Rotunda. Six other state lawmakers also joined 100 members of the community and law enforcement officers in expressing their support for Weed and Seed, which Governor Corbett has zeroed out in his proposed 2011-2012 budget. The program, a collaboration between community and law enforcement, targets crime plagued neighborhoods and revitalizes them. Over 50,000 youth have been helped by Weed and Seed's anti-violence and recidivism initiatives, and over 173,000 residents have been impacted by its various outreach, social services and training programs.
