HARRISBURG, April 12 -- State Rep. Ronald G. Waters, D-Phila./Delaware, chairman of the Pennsylvania Legislative Black Caucus, said the PLBC will recognize five high school senior scholarship recipients at the PLBC Scholarship Reception.

The reception will be held at 6:30 p.m. Saturday, May 26 at the African American Museum in Philadelphia.

"We in the Pennsylvania Legislative Black Caucus are very proud to have helped many minority students in furthering their education through the PLBC Scholarship Program," Waters said. "It gives me great pleasure to add five more minority high school seniors to that list."

Waters said each of the recipients will receive a $1,000 scholarship to attend an accredited two- or four-year Pennsylvania college or university.

"The purpose of the program is to help encourage minority students to pursue higher learning," Waters said. "The caucus considers it a privilege to afford students with the opportunity to go to college."

The 2012 scholarship recipients are: Fumei Y. Cerecino, who will attend the University of Pennsylvania; Alpha Kanu, who will attend Temple University; Raymond J. Snell, who will attend Pennsylvania State University; Nashetah Tucker, who will attend East Stroudsburg University; and Zachary Webster, who will attend Pennsylvania State University. Cerecino, Kanu, Tucker and Webster reside in Philadelphia. Snell is from Harrisburg.

These outstanding students were selected based on their academic success, participation in school, leadership and service in their local communities.

"Higher education is the best way to develop a career with long-term financial security," Waters said. "We are confident that they will achieve their intended career goals through hard, positive work and dedication."
