Minority Business Feature: Divine Crown Academy of Cosmetology - Harrisburg, PA

Divine Crown Academy Gavel Feature

When the Harrisburg School District decided to send cosmetology students to Dauphin County Technical School, Harrisburg was left with no public or private cosmetology institution. Samette and Curtis George, prior owners and teachers of the “Play it Again Sam” three-salon chain decided it was time to open a cosmetology academy in the Harrisburg area.  With over 25 years of experience in the field of cosmetology, Samette and Curtis George felt they could assist in cultivating future leaders in the industry through the establishment of the academy.

Divine Crown Academy of Cosmetology brings the best of hands-on instruction to their students. The beauty academy located on South 25th Street in Kline Plaza provides an opportunity  for participation in both full and part time Cosmetology programs.  Divine is equipped with a full floor working salon, full facial room, manicure and pedicure stations, a complete classroom with flat screen televisions for visual demonstrations and 25 hair stations.

Divine Crown which started offering classes in January  of 2011 provides royalty training in hair, skin and nail care. In addition to the royalty training, students  study entrepreneurship, salon management and perform community service. The academy follows  the criteria  established by the Pennsylvania State Board of Cosmetology ensuring that students are fully qualified and ready to work in their field upon completion of their studies at Divine Crown.

Divine’s atmosphere is filled with humble and diverse students and staff.  Students learn the latest trends in hairstyles and beauty up keep, while learning the importance of hair maintenance, healthy skin and proper nail care. Divine has definitely opened a door to beauty culture for African-Americans, but   also excels in the ability  to teach Asian, Caucasian, Latino and  other ethnic backgrounds through their curriculum.

Divine Crown Academy  provides a chance to empower youth in the community, while helping to revitalize the city of Harrisburg. Students as young as 15 can enroll and take evening, weekend and Saturday courses on the path to obtain their cosmetology license.
